Aiki-Jujutsu is what you want if you are looking for:
Hapkido translates as the “Art of coordinated power”.
Hapkido incorporates the kicking and punching techniques of “Tae Kwon Do” with a
combination of bending, twisting, joint locking, throwing and pressure points, with
applications to various parts of the body. This was developed from Aikijutsu, and
present-day Aikido, whose immobilization techniques and energy throws have become
their trademark. Hapkido retained the methods and precision of its precursor TKD,
and added Aiki-Jujutsu.
Hapkido combines fluidity of styles with the straight line techniques of Tae Kwon Do Korean Karate, an excellent counter part. It differs mainly from the martial arts by its skillful implementation of dynamic kicks and powerful strikes. It was with this difference in mind that the Original Hapkido was created, producing a dynamic balance of both methods as well as the use of internal strength.
Practitioners of Hapkido must learn to apply three principles in mastering this art.
Central and most important is the Ki, the essence of power. It is gained by joining the mind and the body into one spiritual and physical unit. First and foremost, a student must learn to unite the mind and the body. Then basic kicks, blocks, punches and throws are taught. From that point, you must learn to coordinate new-found abilities into free-flowing power and energy. Hapkido Karate is coordinated power in motion.
The three basic skills to be learned are:
I. Non-resistance. Meet force with minimum force to deflect not clash with an adversary’s power. Once power has been diverted, attacking from an opponent’s exposed side is recommended.
II. Circular motion. Use circular patterns to gain momentum, countering and attaching, stepping to the outside to parry punches and kicks, with soft circular motion of the arm and hand. Change a frontal momentum to a lateral motion, by altering the axis of the circle. Instead of meeting your opponent head on, you deflect any attack and then continue with your own self-defense.
III. The water principle. Total penetration of an enemy’s defenses, flowing from one motion to the next, without interruptions, provides an unbroken line of continuous motion, power and energy. Once the initial attack has been deflected, you then continue forward with a joint lock, throw, or an offensive striking technique of your own.
This three principles can be adapted perfectly to combat. When you are being attacked your opponent is using force, instead of meeting force with force, and disrupting your balance, you deflect the attack, you become fluid and moving, and your opponent cannot find a place to attack you, and suddenly you become hard and firm; overwhelming his defense: Hapkido teaches you to remain in harmony with the universe, by always encountering attack force with softness, anger with calmness, and stress with understanding.
